The LEGO Technic Ferrari 488 GTE "AF Corse #51 " is the first LEGO model to accelerate more than 200 km/h on a real car circuit.
Recently, the LEGO Group celebrated a very special milestone: a LEGO® Technic™ Ferrari 488 GTE “AF Corse #51 ” had the honor of racing around the legendary Modena circuit in Italy. This memorable event was possible thanks to a team of about 20 people, who installed the brick version of the race car on a real Ferrari 488 GTE, driven for the occasion by Giancarlo Fisichella, Ferrari Competizioni GT Official Driver.
The LEGO model was installed on the front of the racing car thanks to a mechanical arm specially designed for this occasion. 8 cameras and 2 drones were involved in documenting the very first time a LEGO set was launched at full speed on a real race track, from every point of view. Now the images and sounds captured by the cameras are edited to create an adrenaline-fueled video, allowing all LEGO fans and motorcycle enthusiasts to experience the speed, roar of the engine and vibrations of the race as if they made it themselves part of the race.
The LEGO Group launched the LEGO Technic Ferrari 488 GTE at the end of 2020. Designed for LEGO fans and motor racing enthusiasts, this 48cm racing model is made from 1,677 LEGO Technic elements, making it an engaging, immersive building experience for older builders aged 18 and over who love endurance racing, motorsports and Ferrari cars .
After enjoying the race, Camillo Mazzola, Marketing Director at LEGO Group Italy, commented: “The LEGO Technic Ferrari 488 GTE is packed with authentic features and beautiful design elements from the original race car model. It looks so much like the real thing, and all it took to really come to life was to be able to race through a real race car track and today it happened! As a true LEGO fan and motorsport enthusiast, I couldn't miss this special event and it was really exciting to take part in this great project together with our partner Ferrari.”
During this incredible race, the LEGO Technic Ferrari 488 GTE reached the speed of a real racing car at 208 km/h.
This day was also very special for Matteo Fossati, LEGO fan and lucky winner of the "Vinci un Giorno in Pista con LEGO Technic competition", involving all Italian brick lovers who bought a LEGO Technic Ferrari 488 GTE set and registered have registered on a special website from May 13 to May 30. Matteo Fossati also had the chance to take on a Ferrari 488 challenge for a lap around the track with the two-time world champion Matteo Bobbi, and enjoy an incredible race.
