Lego adapts plan for sustainable blocks

Lego has abandoned its intention to make building blocks from recycled PET bottles. A prototype for this was presented in 2021, but after two years of testing, the Danish toy manufacturer reports that it will not continue with it.
Most plastics are made from crude oil, including the plastic that is still used for Lego blocks. The use of recycled PET bottles seemed to be an alternative, but their use requires additional steps, which require extra energy.
A spokesperson says the search for an oil-free alternative continues. The company wants to allocate 1.1 billion euros for this until 2025. By 2032, all blocks must be made of sustainable materials.
The company has existed for 100 years that year. It was founded in 1932 by Ole Kirk Kristiansen.
