Meet the new LEGO Ultimate car: the 42127 McLaren P1

British supercar manufacturer McLaren Automotive and the LEGO Group today reveal their latest collaboration to celebrate the world’s most groundbreaking hybrid hypercar, with the introduction of the LEGO® Technic™ McLaren P1™.

The McLaren P1™ redefined automotive high-performance – the most exciting, most capable, most technologically advanced and most dynamically accomplished supercar of its time. The P1™ utilised McLaren’s cutting-edge motorsport-inspired engineering, with ground-breaking advances in weight reduction, packaging, high-speed performance, powertrain and aerodynamics.

Created with the intention of being ‘the best driver’s car in the world on road and track’, the design and technical specifications of the McLaren P1™ provided the ideal platform to realise this ambition. The remarkable hypercar is recognised as a milestone for both McLaren and the development of high-performance hybrid vehicles.

The incredible engineering and technology behind the McLaren P1™’s performance, style and functional design made it the perfect challenge for the LEGO Technic team to replicate in 1:8 scale.

The all-new 1:8 scale LEGO Technic version was revealed as part of the LEGO Technic Ultimate Car Concept Series and consists of 3,893 elements. Each car has a unique serial number that gives access to special behind-the-scenes content. The car features a 7-speed dual-drum transmission, suspension, V8 piston engine, adjustable rear wing and opening dihedral doors with sophisticated mechanisms. It all makes for an immersive building experience from start to finish that is authentic to the real McLaren P1™.

The model was created by the LEGO Technic design team in close collaboration with McLaren Automotive, with both teams focused on implementing as much advanced functionality into the model as possible, paying homage to both the real-life P1™ and the engineering excellence for which McLaren is renowned.

In 1993, it designed and built the legendary McLaren F1 road car. Built around a carbon fibre chassis, it established McLaren's supercar DNA, brought into the 21st century in 2011 with the introduction of the McLaren 12C – McLaren Automotive's first production car.

McLaren was the first to deliver a hybrid hypercar, the McLaren P1™, in 2013. The launch of the Ultimate Series of vehicles, P1™, was followed by the McLaren Senna in 2018 and its track-only GTR derivative a year later. 2019 also saw the introduction of the Speedtail hybrid hyper-GT. The most recent Ultimate model, the Elva, is the lightest McLaren road car ever.

McLaren’s LT models represent the ultimate expression of track performance in a series production supercar. Taking their name from the ‘Longtail’ version of the F1 GTR introduced in 1997, the line-up became part of the McLaren Automotive nomenclature in 2015 with the arrival of the McLaren 650S-based 675LT coupe and Spider. In 2018, the LT legend continued with the McLaren 570S-based 600LT. The final chapter in the LT story was written in 2020 and 2021 with the introduction of the 765LT coupe and Spider.

Also in 2021, the company unveiled its all-new high-performance hybrid supercar, the McLaren Artura. The Artura is the first McLaren to benefit from the McLaren Carbon Lightweight Architecture (MCLA). Designed, engineered and manufactured at the McLaren Composites Technology Centre in the Sheffield area of ​​England using world-first processes, the MCLA is set to lead the brand’s electrified future.

In 2022, McLaren announced the Solus GT, a single-seater, closed-cockpit race car that brought to life a futuristic concept originally created for virtual gaming.

In 2023, McLaren unveiled its lightest, most powerful series production supercar, the 750S – a ground-up development of the award-winning 720S supercar. McLaren also introduced the new GTS, replacing the McLaren GT.

The McLaren Artura Spider was revealed in early 2024 as the marque’s first high-performance hybrid convertible. Its introduction was part of a major model year upgrade for the Artura nameplate and meant that McLaren’s series production line-up of GTS, new Artura and 750S had been introduced within 12 months of each other.

McLaren Automotive also chooses to collaborate with like-minded, industry-leading companies and organisations that are pushing the boundaries in their respective fields. These include Ashurst, Bowers & Wilkins, Dynisma, Gulf, Monroe, Pirelli, Plan International, Richard Mille and Tumi.
