Power functions / Powered Up: What's the difference?

LEGO Powered Up

We have used the Power Functions platform in the past to motorize some of our LEGO Technic or LEGO Creator Expert sets. Powered Up replaces Power Functions and offers a lot of improved features such as:

  • Improved range
  • New Bluetooth® wireless connections that also work behind obstacles
  • Many channels
  • Not sensitive to sunlight
  • Compatibility with Bluetooth® Low Energy devices
  • Better support sensors and smart motors
  • New tech platform that works with most new LEGO smart parts
  • New Powered Up plugs/connection points for light, sensors and motors.

Power Functions (abbreviated as PF) is a TECHNIC-based system of electronic components, including motors, lighting, remote controls and receivers or various power supplies. These parts can be connected by cables with brick-shaped connectors. The system was first released in June 2007, in the sets 4957 Ferris Wheel, 4958 Monster Dino and 8275 Motorized Bulldozer.Contents.
