2TTOYS Sponsors Major Free LEGO Festival

WHEN: November 1 & 2

WHERE: LACO

ENTRANCE FEE: € 0.00

LEERDAM • “Do something crazy, rent the entire sports hall this year and let children participate in this Lego festival that will be held on November 1 and 2 in the sports hall of Laco Leerdam,” is how Richard van Strien begins his story about why the organization of the Brickfreaks festival is already going public.

Van Strien continues: “We can use the entire sports hall this year, which is over 450 square meters more than last year. Then we had 900 square meters, and now we have 1,350 square meters at our disposal. In addition to more space for the many constructions, this also provides more space for visitors.”

“But it also gives us the opportunity to let children play a role this year during these Lego days. Because it is our greatest wish to give children the opportunity to show their own work, we would now like to ask them to build a beautiful diorama. They will then be given a table of 1.22 meters by 73 centimeters in the sports hall on which the diorama can stand.”

Children's constructions

Co-organiser Jacques Hoencamp adds: “We know for sure that there are boys and girls who would like to show their construction to others and now that the school holidays are starting, the children have all the time to make something beautiful. So we call on children aged 6 to 16 to participate and register with us, because we would like to know how many children want to participate and what they are going to make.”

Registration is possible until September 15th via the website: www.bricksleerdam.nl. Of course participation is free, as is the visit to the Lego festival.

Last year's success

The two Lego enthusiasts say that the day after the very successful Lego weekend, which was held in October last year in the sports hall of Laco Leerdam and attracted more than 10,000 visitors, they already started preparing for the upcoming event. It remains a challenge to always come up with something new and to keep the festival free of charge. Because everyone, young and old and also people with a small budget, should be able to visit this event, the two believe.

Van Strien: “We are very happy that we will have more space, because this means that we can show more new Lego items, constructions and technical Lego. And that the visitors, big and small, have more space to view everything or to build something themselves during these Lego days.”

Fantasy

And building with the thousands of colored bricks in all shapes and sizes, is something the two organizers themselves also like to do. Because in fact, their whole life, besides organizing this Lego festival, revolves around building the most beautiful works of art.

“But, we also take enough time for our wives and vacation, you know,” they both remark laughing. What do Strien and Hoencamp prefer to build themselves? “Well, just buy a box of bricks, throw them on a pile and let your imagination run wild. That’s how the most beautiful structures come about.”

New diorama

In addition to the entire organization and finding enough sponsors, the two Lego freaks have also been busy building a new diorama for months. This time it will not be placed along a wall in the hall, but in the middle of the room. Hoencamp: “This is a big challenge for us because it has to be well put together on all sides, because people will not only look at it, but can also walk around it.”

The event in which Lego bricks play the leading role will be held this year on November 1 and 2 at Laco. More about this later.
