LEGO 10176 King's Castle

10176 King's Castle is a Kingdom of the Knights set released in 2006 and was only available at LEGO Stores and LEGO's online shop. The set was also sold in 2008 at Costco stores as the Royal Castle, where the "Knights' Kingdom" label was replaced with a "Special Edition" label. It includes a large castle, a small attack force with a Ballista siege wagon and a total of twelve minifigures, including a ghost, two skeletons and two mounted knights with horses, as well as a king.

Although the box art features the logo from the 2004 Knights' Kingdom II line, it features crests and factions from the first Knights' Kingdom theme from 2000 and is therefore attributed to this series instead. The castle and its soldiers bear the lion symbol of King Leo, while the small assault force bears the coat of arms of Carlo the Bull.

The castle has a similar layout to King Leo's Castle, as it appeared in sets 6091 and 6098 of Knights' Kingdom in 2000. King's Castle has the same raised base as the other two sets, but the superstructure has a more elaborate design with taller walls and towers and more interior furnishings.

The raised base plate is rectangular in shape and has two ridges on the sides with a wide slot in between. Each ridge ends in two wide bumps with a recess in the center. The castle itself consists of one large segment built on a green slab spanning the trench of the base slab, and four other segments on the four corners of the castle, each occupying one of the four bumps of the raised base slab. The hollow space in the trench below the main body of the castle contains a forge with a fireplace and an anvil. There is also a torture rack with a chained skeleton. This cave is closed with bars at the front and is accessible at the rear through a barred gate.

The large central part of the castle contains the king's throne room on the top level. This means that this room is located directly behind the main gate of the castle, protected only by a portcullis. In front of this gate is a black ramp that can be tilted like a drawbridge, but without ropes or winches. On the top floor is a wizard's laboratory with a scroll stand, a flame, and a table with cups. Right above it is the roof.

The segments that form the two corners at the front of the castle have the same design. Both have small rotating catapults at the top and are only one story high. The tower at the rear right is of two floors and has a barred hatch on the ground floor leading directly to a recess in the base plate, which serves as a prison and is occupied by a skeleton. On the first floor there is a lever for the tap on the top floor. The left rear segment, which is again only one story high, has a prefabricated door in the outer wall that serves as an alternative access to the castle. Each of the four segments has a small turret with a pointed roof and is equipped with a fixed crossbow.

On the royal side are seven minifigures, consisting of the king himself, his wizard, a knight on horseback, a short-legged blacksmith and three regular soldiers. The attackers consist of a knight on horseback and a soldier. Their little siege engine is a simple push cart with a halberd and a crossbow.

This set also included a rat, two gray birds, a snake, a dog, a bat and two horses.

  • The castle is believed to be inspired by 6090 Royal Knight's Castle from 1995, but shares more structural similarities with King Leo's Castle.
  • This particular baseplate only appeared in this set and the two versions of King Leo's Castle, 6091 and 6098.
  • The symbols on the shields and flags are stickers rather than printed on the pieces.
  • None of the minifigures have printed legs or torsos.
  • The king may represent King Leo, but he has a completely different face. The Bull Knight also has a different face than the original Cedric The Bull.
  • The black wall panels with the column pattern originally appeared in 6090 Royal Knight's Castle and two other sets between 1995 and 1997. Their sudden return in a single set in 2006 is quite unusual. They haven't appeared again either.
