LEGO City Missions
In 2020, LEGOĀ® Play Labs launched an experimental digital play experience called "LEGO Freebuild Chronicles". This replaced instruction-based building with a story-guided experience.
Now Freebuild Chronicles has evolved into a new play experience called LEGO City Missions. Similarly , LEGO City Missions will ditch the normal instructions for a story-based digital experience accessible through the LEGO Instructions App . Using characters from the LEGO City Adventures TV show, there will be three missions to undertake, each with its own corresponding LEGO set. Although these new sets have a digital aspect, it is not the same as Hidden Side, VIDIYO etc.
New exciting adventures come to LEGO City through story-based building experiences.
Featuring new digital storytelling experiences, LEGOĀ® City Missions allows kids to customize their models with pure imagination and creativity in an effort to solve exciting upcoming missions.
Time to roll up your sleeves and forget the traditional LEGO building instructions - this new experience takes you on a story-driven building journey - testing imagination and creative experimentation. It is the latest innovation from LEGO City that allows children to dive into an amazing world of interactive adventures and missions to be solved through building challenges without instructions and interacting with on-screen characters.
LEGO City Missions launches with three new sets based on animal rescue, space exploration and police detective mysteries. Each model is accompanied by an interactive story, with each story containing eight different missions. Children will be inspired to build core models, which they will then be encouraged to constantly rebuild and adapt to the different scenarios, clues and missions they encounter during each story.
āThe team behind LEGO CITY Missions wanted to explore a new route to celebrate children's imaginations and let their creativity flourish while building with LEGO. We know from talking to children and their parents that creative confidence is key to children's wellbeing and with this new product we want to help every child recognize and be proud of their unique creations.ā Says Lillie Ann Talbott, Design Strategist, Creative Play Lab at the LEGO Group
Mikkel Lee, Story Innovation Lead, Creative Play Lab at the LEGO Group adds: āWe want every child to know that there is no right or wrong, and that only their imagination sets the limit on what they build. With LEGO City Missions we've worked hard to ensure a strong balance between storytelling to get kids started with their builds, but also giving them open-ended tasks to complete and allowing for individual interpretation. During our testing we are constantly reminded that children are creative geniuses, so we really can't wait to see what they come up with!
Using a QR code in the box, the interactive stories can be accessed via the LEGO Digital Building Instructions app. Kids looking for new ways to build and challenge their inner design skills will love these new products, mastering endless hours of creative play where only imagination sets the limit for the models built for each mission .
