Disney Pixar Luxo Jr./Pixar's lamp

This LEGO building model was submitted to LEGO Ideas. Wouldn't it be great if this model actually hit the shelves?

An interview with the designer:

"Hello, I am proud to present my product idea to you: the Disney Pixar Luxo Jr!

Luxo Jr is probably the most famous lamp in the world! He first appeared in the 1986 animated short film 'Luxo Jr.': the first from Pixar Animation Studios, which was considered a breakthrough in computer animation at the time. Since then, the playful desk lamp has been featured in the Pixar logo, which played before the Pixar films. Luxo Jr has played a huge role in the advancement of the animation medium and more than 35 years after he first appeared, I think it's time for an official Luxo Jr Lego set. I have been continuously improving the construction for a long time to make it as screen accurate as possible and this is what I ended up with. The lamp has many joints and a swivel part to make it as movable as possible. For example, the 'head' part can fully rotate, the whole body can lean forward and backward, and the whole lamp can rotate on its base. This means that there are practically endless possibilities in terms of the positions that Luxo Jr can be placed in. I used ribbed hose pieces to replicate Luxo's feathers and a clear dome for his light. I think this has the potential to be installed with power function bulbs to illuminate the lamp.
The famous Luxo ball is built using SNOT techniques and is yellow with a blue stripe. It has two red stars opposite each other like the real ball, and is correctly scaled to the lamp.

I think this would make a fantastic little Lego set because firstly it would look great on display due to how accurate it is to the real thing. Secondly I think it would be a lot of fun to play with as you could give the lamp a lot of personality by positioning it differently and making it do different things. For example making it jump around, jumping on things or playing with a ball. Finally I think another element of playability with this set is that it would be perfect for creating stop motion animations which I would enjoy doing and gives this idea a unique selling point. This would make a great addition to any fan of the Pixar films collection and would look great next to WALL-E, characters from Toy Story or the Incredibles who have all been created in Lego form before.
