Airport crash tenders are extremely powerful machines. They offer relatively good acceleration for their size and weight, can travel over rough terrain outside the airport area, have a large capacity of water and firefighting foam, are equipped with powerful high-capacity pumps and water/foam cannons, and are capable of delivering firefighting equipment over long distances. They can be mounted on a 4x4, 6x6 or even 8x8 chassis with wheels. To reduce the turning circle, the 8x8 wheeled unit allows all four front wheels to be steerable.
