LEGO 79005 The Wizard Battle

LEGO 79005 Wizard Battle is a set in the theme of The Lord of the Rings, released in June 2013. It contains part of the interior of the Tower of Orthanc and two minifigures: Gandalf and Saruman. Top set from LEGO The Lord Of The Rings

The main structure of the set is Saruman's throne. This is mainly made of black bricks with dark stone gray base plates. On the front part of the structure a circular platform with a 4x4 turntable in the center with a stable table on top. This has a transparent orange minifigure head printed with the Eye of Sauron. This is covered with a sphere. Together these pieces depict the Palantír. The turntable can rotate by means of a beam placed under the platform. In the center of the structure is a 4x6 area for Saruman's throne with two black steps on each side. Behind each of the stairs is an ornate black tower with a translucent yellow sphere on top of each staircase.

Saruman's throne is placed between the two tower structures. Made of many sloping black bricks, it rises above the towers at a height of almost ten building blocks. At the top are some black cones and an 'anvil' with a third cone at the top. A black plate is placed on Saruman's throne where the sorcerer sits. Behind this is a pole used to propel the one sitting on the throne.

The set includes two minifigures: Saruman with a white cloak and a three-piece staff, and Gandalf the Gray with hair holding a brown staff. This variant of Gandalf has no hat or cape.

Background
When Gandalf rode to Orthanc for help, he discovered that Saruman wanted to join Sauron. Saruman tried to convince Gandalf to join him in his cause, explaining that they could ultimately control the Dark Lord for their own benefit. Saruman also suggested finding the Ring to challenge Sauron.

When Gandalf refused to help Saruman search for the Ring, even though the Ringwraiths were after Frodo Baggins, Saruman sealed his fellow wizard in Orthanc. A battle ensued, with Saruman victorious, and Gandalf was held captive on the summit of Orthanc. Then he was saved by Gwaihir, the Lord of the Eagles.

Notes
The Palantír in this set is different from the one in 10237 The Tower of Orthanc.
