LEGO Fortnite-sets zijn ontworpen voor ‘display play’

LEGO Fortnite sets are designed for 'display play'

The four upcoming LEGO Fortnite sets are designed with “display play” in mind, with the hopes that gamers can show them off while they play.

Looking at the gameplay features and content of the four LEGO Fortnite sets releasing on October 1, you might have guessed that Fortnite's audience and the LEGO Group's shift toward gaming sets influenced their design.

This has now been confirmed by the LEGO Fortnite design team, including John Cuppage and Erik Jensen, in a recent roundtable discussion with Brick Fanatics and other fan media. The LEGO Fortnite sets are specifically designed for 'display play', unlike most other LEGO models.

"What we found is that there are many different types of play and our research team is in another area that we work closely with," Cuppage said. "They have over 100 different types of play and display play is one of them, even though you don't necessarily think of it that way.

“We know that kids play in a lot of different ways and we've found that as kids get a little bit older, into their early teens, they move away from that traditional play, but they still might want to have something that represents their passions and the IPs that they really love.”

Also taken into account was how these sets could be presented to the target audience, which is already present in the lifestyle images of the four sets.

“Because they're gamers, they also like to have a lot of cool stuff from the games they like on their desk while they're playing LEGO Fortnite and stuff like that,” Jensen explained.

"We're hoping to connect with some of those older kids a little bit more," Cuppage continued. "I've been on a bunch of lifestyle shoots for this line and say, 77073 Battle Bus, we had kids that mirrored the age that we have on the box.

“77070 Durrr Burger's age limit is nine plus and even nine plus is quite old compared to some of our other themes, especially some of the other IP themes that we have. We have Star Wars which is aiming a little bit higher, but when we think about Superheroes and some of the other IPs, we're aiming for about six, seven, and eight.”

The age limit for the LEGO Fortnite sets ranges from nine plus for 77070 Durrr Burger to 77071 Supply Llama at 12 plus, while 77072 Bone Peely is in a class of its own as an 18+ set. These four LEGO Fortnite sets prove to be unique additions to the LEGO portfolio and you can pick them up from October 1, 2024. Pre-orders are open now, however.
